Tupac Amaru Shakur was born Lesane Parish Crooks, June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), of the stage name 2Pac, was an American rapper and actor.

Among the most influential rappers ever, Shakur depicted social issues that plagued inner cities, and in the eyes of many still symbolizes resistance against inequality. In 2010, Rolling Stone named him—also a successful lead actor—among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Born in New York City, Shakur moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988. In 1993, to further his entertainment career, he moved to Los Angeles. Released in 1991, his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, had imported to West Coast rap, being led by gangsta rap, a sociopolitical lens.[8][9] The 1993 arrival of his followup album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z..., expanded his success, furthered by his roles in the 1992 film Juice and the 1993 film Poetic Justice. Yet 1995 brought, as most critics appraise, his magnum opus, the album Me Against the World.

By then, imprisoned in New York on a molestation conviction, he would seek to avenge the November 1994 shooting and robbery of him in New York.
